Our family joined the Emerson Waldorf School community six years ago when Juniper started nursery school. It was so easy to fall in love with their Early Childhood program. It was a gentle, rhythmic, play-based environment filled with beautiful materials and nourishing food and hours spent outside in the play yard or the woods beyond. The children heard nature stories and sang songs and learned practical skills such as bread kneading and sewing and sweeping and chopping, all the while absorbing brilliantly subtle lessons that would lay the foundation for later academic work. Their teachers were unwaveringly loving and knowledgable and uncannily attuned to the individual expressions, needs, and strengths of each child.

My appreciation for the true gifts of this education has only deepened as Juniper and Owen have entered grade school. They love going to school every single day. They love learning. Juniper has declared third grade the best year yet. Owen is soaking up first grade just as eagerly. In this holistic, integrated education, every child can find something that truly nourishes their soul. My children do, every day. And as their wonderful teachers shepherd them through these days, they are growing into thoughtful, compassionate individuals, even as they learn math and art and music and stewardship for the world around us.

Students at Emerson Waldorf meet a well-rounded, developmentally informed education that emphasizes observation, questioning, and flexible thinking and that directly engages with the complexity and interconnectivity of our world. These students will have the foundation necessary to become kind, intelligent, engaged, and open-minded members of society who reach for truth above dogma and embrace uncertainty and complexity rather than easy answers. This is my hope for my children and for all of us. This is how we become the change. Our Annual Fund supports the people who make this happen, the programs that nourish and educate our children, and the initiatives that promote diversity within this beautiful community.

Join me in supporting real change. Let's support good in the world and make a difference. Help us educate our children to become original, creative, analytical thinkers who can change the world! Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Emerson Waldorf School.
